How it connects
A custom MCP connector you add once at grok.com/connectors (New Connector › Custom). Grok cannot add connectors itself, so the address is pasted by you; signing in with Google during that step creates your account.
Add the connector: New Connector › Custom, name Open Calls, address https://opencalls.dev/mcp.
Sign in with Google when Grok asks. That creates your account.
Open Grok with the getting-started prompt: it checks your account and offers the free minute.
Give it your mobile number, approve the quote, and hear your AI call you.
The getting-started prompt
I am new to Open Calls (opencalls.dev), an AI phone-calling service that gives you the ability to make phone calls for me. Walk me through it one step at a time, waiting for me to confirm each step.
1) Connector: first call get_workspace to see whether the Open Calls connector is already available to you. If it is not, tell me in one short message to open grok.com/connectors, choose New Connector › Custom, paste https://opencalls.dev/mcp and sign in with Google when asked; that creates my account. Wait for me, then call get_workspace again. Do not send me to any other sign-up page.
2) Free minute: on the page where I approve the connection (or at https://opencalls.dev/app/start) I give my mobile number and you call me at once for a one-minute introduction, free and without a card; that number becomes my callback number. Calling anyone else needs credit I add myself in https://opencalls.dev/app/billing.
3) Confirm: run get_workspace and tell me that my account is connected, my available credit, the destination rates and its next_step.
4) First test call: I will give you my own mobile number. Quote the maximum charge for a one-minute call from the destination rates in get_workspace, ask for my approval, then use call_business in ask mode to call me and ask one simple question, for example what I would like for lunch tomorrow. Poll get_call until it ends and tell me exactly what I answered, with the supporting quote. After that we can try a real business.
Getting-started guide: https://opencalls.dev/integrations
Never place a call, spend credit or change settings without asking me first; every call needs my explicit approval and a maximum charge.
Custom connectors live in Grok's web app at grok.com/connectors; xAI's documentation lists the plans that include them. Open Calls itself has no subscription; calls use prepaid credit.
What does a call cost?
Pay as you go at $0.25 per minute of AI conversation, billed by the second after a one-minute minimum, with a cheaper waiting rate while the line keeps the AI on hold. Your assistant quotes the maximum before every call and you approve it.
Does my assistant call anyone without asking?
No. Every call needs your explicit approval and a maximum charge, calls are information-only, and you can stop a call at any time.
Is there free calling time to try it?
Yes. Sign in with Google, give your mobile number, and your AI calls you for a free minute to introduce itself, with no card. After that, add credit to call anyone.
Which countries can it call?
United States, Canada, Israel and the United Kingdom today, with per-destination rates shown before you approve.
